Riga "Dinamo" beats Moscow "Spartak" in KHL game

 MOSCOW, Jan 10 - Riga "Dinamo" convincingly defeated Moscow "Spartak" 4-1 (0-0, 2-0, 2-1) in a Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) game in Moscow on Thursday.
After a scoreless first period, Andris Dzerins scored the first goal for "Dinamo" when the team was killing a penalty. At the end of the second period, Alexandre Giroux scored "Dinamo's" second goal on a power play.
At the very beginning of the third period, Martins Karsums made the score 3-0 on another power play. A few minutes later, Miks Indrasis was tripped on a breakaway. "Dinamo" was awarded a penalty shot, and Indrasis made the score 4-0 for "Dinamo".
The only goal for "Spartak" was scored by Branko Radivojevic in the last minute of the game.
In their previous matchup in Riga last September, "Dinamo" beat "Spartak" 5-4.
Riga "Dinamo" will now play four games at home January 16 to January 22.
"Dinamo" has moved up one spot to 12th place in the KHL Western Conference with 45 points from 42 games. The Latvian club is currently eleven points behind the conference's eighth placed team. Only the top eight teams in each of the two conferences qualify for the KHL playoffs. On the other hand, "Spartak" is in last place with 38 points.
