Latvian ice hockey team beats Russia in exhibition match

In preparation for this year's Ice Hockey World Championships on Thursday, the Latvian national men's ice hockey team defeated Russia 2:1 in an exhibition match.

Kaspars Daugavins scored the winner in overtime, with Ronalds Kenins scoring the regulation goal for Latvia. Artyom Zub scored the lone goal for Russia.

Latvia will play its last two friendlies in Switzerland on May 3 and 4.

During the World Championship's preliminary round in Bratislava, Latvia will be in Group B, which also includes Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Czech Republic, Russia, Sweden and Norway. The four best teams in the group will advance to the quarterfinals.
