Latvian men's handball team wins EC qualifier against Slovakia

DOBELE, April 4  - On Wednesday, the Latvian men's handball team notched its first win in the qualification campaign for the 2014 European Handball Championships, defeating Slovakia 28:24.

The top scorer for Latvia was Ingars Dude with seven goals, followed by Aivis Jurdzs with six.

These two teams will play again on Sunday in Slovakia.

As reported, Latvia lost its opening qualifier to Hungary 25:32, and then lost to Croatia 23:30.

At the moment, Croatia and Hungary are in first place in the group with four points a piece, followed by Latvia with two points, and Slovakia in last with zero points.

The top two teams in each of the seven qualification groups will qualify for the 2014 European Men's Handball Championships, as well as the best third-placed team.

The 2014 European Men's Handball Championships will be held in Denmark from January 14 to 26.
