Customs officials intercept hashish shipment worth EUR 2 million

Latvian State Revenue Service’s Customs Police intercepted and confiscated a shipment of more than 200 kg of hashish worth EUR 2 million, as journalists were informed by SRS Customs Police Director Kaspars Podins on Thursday, 20 October.

Podins explained that it was possible to uncover the crime thanks to successful cooperation between Latvian and Lithuanian customs experts.

Customs officials of both countries noticed something suspicious about a Nissan truck with Estonian registration number and a Ford with German registration number. Suspicion was raised even further when trained dogs took an interest in the two vehicles.

More than 200 kg of hashish was found in hidden compartments of the Nissan truck and 564.3 g of hashish were found and confiscated from hidden compartments of the Ford.

Drivers of both vehicles have been taken into custody and are now under arrest. A criminal process has been launched.
