Rinkevics to attend meetings of Foreign Affairs Council and General Affairs Council in Brussels

 RIGA, Nov 19 - Today and tomorrow, Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics will participate in the meetings of the Foreign Affairs Council and the General Affairs Council in Brussels, LETA was informed by the Foreign Ministry's Press and Information Department.
Today, the Foreign Affairs Council will discuss the EU-Ukraine relations from the perspective of the recent parliamentary elections in that country. The Council will also exchange views on the latest developments in the EU's southern neighborhood with a special focus on Syria. The ministers will then take stock of the Middle East Peace Process and debate the stabilization of the situation in Mali and the EU’s cooperation with Cuba.
The General Affairs Council on November 20 will focus on preparations for the European Council meeting on November 22-23 where an agreement is to be reached on the EU's multi-annual financial framework for 2014-2020. The General Affairs Council will also take note of a draft agenda of the European Council meeting on December 13-14. The General Affairs Council is expected to reach a partial general approach on further elements of the cohesion policy legislative package for 2014-2020. Furthermore, the European Commission will present its work program for 2013.
