RIGA, Dec 20 - Former president and Reform Party leader Valdis Zatlers has successfully defeated cancer, but, due to a rare spinal cord disease, he was also facing the threat of paralysis, magazine "Ir" reports.
Zatlers underwent two surgeries. After a cancer surgery in Riga, the ex-president had neurosurgery in Brussels.
Zatlers is reluctant to talk about the surgery, but points out that it was necessary due to a rare spinal cord disease.
At the end of January, he will return to Brussels for additional check-ups.
