RIGA, Dec 19 - Today, the Riga Regional Court ruled that the man police believe is suspected of stabbing six people in Olaine (central Latvia) this past weekend is to be taken into custody as a security measure.
The man's attorney Alla Prozumenta told LETA that she intends to appeal the decision.
She said that her client denies that charges against him.
As reported, six persons (two women and four men) in separate incidents Sunday night were attacked by a man wielding a knife.
Monday morning, police arrested a suspect (b.1975), but he turned out to be the wrong man. Another arrest was made later Monday evening, a male, born 1966, with no criminal record.
All six stabbing victims are recuperating in hospital, with some in serious condition following emergency surgery.
LETA also reported, on January 14 last year in Olaine, a naked man attacked a woman on the street and stabbed her over 20 times.
The woman died from her injuries, whilst the attacker was detained. A psychiatric evaluation later determined that the man was mentally unfit.
