RIGA, Dec 17 - Today, Health Minister Ingrida Circene (Unity) met with representatives from the Latvian Association of General Practitioners, however, the sides failed to reach an agreement and the association is now preparing for protests.
The association's head Pauls Princis told LETA that a compromise was not reached during today's talks. "We were not heard today again," said Princis.
Princis was invited to participate in today's session of the Cabinet of Ministers' committee and the Cabinet of Ministers' session tomorrow, where he will be given a chance to speak out. However, the association's demands are not respected, the association could stage protests, emphasized Princis.
As reported, on December 5, the Latvian Association of General Practitioners sent a letter to Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis (Unity), Ombudsman Juris Jansons and Circene, demanding that the minister step down and explaining that the call for the minister's resignation is due to the pending amendments to the Cabinet regulations on general practitioners' work.
"Minister of Health Ingrida Circene, after more than one year in office, has still not developed an adequate strategy for the development of primary health care. The health policy pursued by the minister is dangerous to society and degrading to primary health care, therefore we are demanding the minister's resignation," stated the association's letter.
