Freeport of Riga increases cargo turnover by 6.9%

 RIGA, Dec 13 - In the first 11 months of 2012, the Freeport of Riga handled 33.1 million tons of cargo, which is 6.9 percent more than in the corresponding period last year, the port informed "Nozare.lv".

Coal transportation grew 12.9 percent to 13.61 million tons. The volume of mineral fertilizers reduced 15.6 percent to LVL 1.31 million tons. Grain transportation increased 40.2 percent and exceeded 657,700 tons.

In the segment of general cargo, container cargo transportation amounted to 3.35 million tons in January-November, 15.6 percent more than in the respective period in 2011. The volume of roll on/roll off cargo increased 6.3 percent to 546,000 tons.

Oil products constituted the largest share in the liquid cargo segment and reached LVL 7.07 million tons, increasing 2.5 percent from the corresponding period in 2011.
