RIGA, Dec 3  - At least five MPs from All For Latvia!-For Fatherland And Freedom/LNNK (VL-TB/LNNK) are no longer sure if they should vote for introduction of the euro in Latvia, therefore Latvia's plans for joining the euro area in 2014 may be derailed, TV3 broadcast "Neka personiga" (Nothing Personal) reported yesterday night.

Couple weeks ago, 51 MPs voted for forwarding the government's euro implementation bill to Saeima committees. The bill is yet to be reviewed in three readings by the parliament.
Now it seems that this may not happen as five members of VL-TB/LNNK - MPs Vineta Porina, Imants Paradnieks, Inese Laizane, Karlis Kreslins and Janis Dombrava - are no longer sure if they should support the euro.

According to the broadcast, the VL-TB/LNNK Saeima group is debating a proposal to claim that the European Union write off part of Latvia's debt borrowed during the crisis, and to oppose the euro if the EU disagrees.

The government has decided that Latvia is to adopt the euro on January 1, 2014. However, if a referendum is staged on the euro implementation project in 2013, or even if a signature drive for such a referendum is organized, Latvia will not be able to adopt the euro on January 1, 2014.

If Saeima adopts the euro implementation law, the opposition will have an opportunity to stall the bill - under the Constitution, collection of signatures for the organization of a referendum must begin if 34 MPs request this in a petition submitted to the president. Harmony Center has 31 seats in the parliament, whereas VL-TB/LNNK dissenters - at least five, notes "Neka personiga".

According to VL-TB/LNNK "Twitter" account, VL-TB/LNNK is to take a decision on the euro implementation project by December 12. "Taking into consideration the members' opinions, this will be one of the hardest decisions in the national alliance's history."
