In the Latvian Saeima, the KPV LV party has on February 6 expelled its former candidate for the post of the Prime Minister, Aldis Gobzems, from its parliamentary faction.

The politician, who has been quite critical in his statements about both other politicians and his fellow party members, as well as the press, has this week also been expelled from the KPV LV party.

Wednesday’s vote in the Saeima faction on Gobzems has been a closed one and the majority of the 16 members of the faction have backed his expulsion.

Chairman of the faction, Atis Zakatistovs, noted to reporters that he did not evaluate the decision, but «took it into account».

Following the decision, Gobzems, who is a lawyer and a former insolvency administrator, told reporters that he was positively encouraged today. Gobzems added that he would, together with the people, who have responded to his call to create a «new organisation», establish «a strong, competitive organisation of the people». The organisation would turn into a serious movement that would stick to the previous ideals of the politician.
