Saeima deputy Ieva Krapāne from KPV LV decided on 8 January to withdraw her candidacy from the post of Latvian Welfare Minister in the new government, according to information reported by LTV.

Krapāne announced her decision during a meeting of KPV LV Saeima faction.

Her decision may have had been influenced by New Unity’s Krišjānis Kariņš, which New Unity categorically denies, saying that it was her own decision.

As it is known, Kariņš has proposed a government in which five parties are represented – New Unity, New Conservative Party, KPV LV, Attīstībai/Par and National Alliance. Initially talks were organized with the Union of Greens and Farmers, but because of certain parties’ red lines these talks were discontinued.

KPV LV has proposed Sandis Ģirģens for the post of interior affairs minister, Didzis Šmits for the post of economy minister and Ieva Krapāne for the post of welfare minister.
