On Friday, 7 December, members of Latvia’s Saeima are invited to attend a meeting organized by Latvian Hospital Association to discuss the possible state of emergency in healthcare sector that will appear starting 1 January, when law amendments are expected to introduce major restrictions on extended hours medical personnel are allowed to work.

The association has invited representatives from Latvian Health and Social Care Workers Trade Union, as well as Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital, Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital and Children Clinical University Hospital.

«Saeima representatives – Social and Employment Matters Committee chairman Andris Skride, Budget and Finance Committee’s chairman Mārtiņš Bondars, as well as faction leaders Jānis Urbanovičs (Harmony), Atis Zakatistovs (KPLV LV), Juta Strīķe (New Conservative Party), Daniels Pavļuts (AP!), Raivis Dzintars (NA), Uldis Augulis (UGF) and Ainars Latkovskis (New Unity) – are especially welcome to attend this meeting,» LHA representatives say.

Healthcare industry professionals want to inform state officials of the emergency in the healthcare sector and ask deputies to search for solutions that would help resolve the crisis in Latvian hospitals.

On 23 November, LHA announced a warning regarding the possibility of a state of emergency in the healthcare sector.
