In the Estonian airspace, a NATO Spanish fighter jet has accidentally released a live-fire missile while over Tartu County. The weapon has a built-in self-destruction system, but it is unknown if it has exploded.

Estonian public broadcaster ERR reported that on Tuesday, August 8, the Estonian Air Force begun a search operation to find that the AMRAAM type missile, which has a firing range is 100 km, is 3.7 m long and has carries a live warhead.

The last assumed location of the missile is roughly 40 km to the north of the city of Tartu.

The Spanish fighter jet, which is involved NATO‘s Baltic air policing mission, did not get into any other accidents before landing safely in Šiauliai base, Lithuania.
