Riga Technical University Rector Leonids Ribickis was highest-earning rector among state-funded universities and colleges in 2017

Riga Technical University Rector Leonids Ribickis was the highest earning rector among all state-funded universities and colleges last year, while Rezekne Higher Education Institution's Rector Edmunds Teirumnieks had the largest debts, according to data from the State Revenue Service collated by LETA.

A rector's annual income may be made up of different remuneration components - salary and other payments at the rector's university and other universities and colleges, royalties, payments from the State Social Insurance Agency, incomes from various transactions, for instance, sale of property, and others.
 

Ribickis was the highest earning rector last year - his total annual income in 2017 amounted to EUR 231,716, including his Riga Technical University rector's salary of EUR 94,331. Compared to 2016, Ribickis' incomes last year increased EUR 44,490. Ribickis' debt liabilities stood at EUR 17,289.
 

University of Latvia Rector Indrikis Muiznieks was the second highest-earning rector last year with annual incomes at EUR 147,738. The current Riga Stradins University Rector Aigars Petersons declared incomes of EUR 135,374 last year, as well as savings of EUR 18,301 and debts worth EUR 65,000.
 

Annual income of the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies Rector Irina Pilvere increased the most last year, amounting to EUR 125,190 - EUR 46,388 more than in 2016. She also had the second largest debt amount - EUR 82,800, while Pilvere's savings stood at EUR 78,399.
 

Rezekne Higher Education Institution's Rector Teirumnieks declared the largest debts among university rectors last year - EUR 147,000. Teirumnieks' incomes amounted to EUR 45,682 in 2017.
 

Among academy rectors, Latvian Academy of Art Rector Kristaps Zarins earned the highest income last year, EUR 72,561, while Latvian Academy of Sport Education Rector Janis Zidens and Latvian National Defense Academy Rector the lowest incomes - EUR 29,303 and EUR 28,318 respectively.
 

Vitols Latvian Academy of Music Rector Guntars Pranis' incomes amounted to EUR 55,440 and Latvian Academy of Culture Rector Ruta Muktupavela earned EUR 51,247 last year.
 

Ventspils University College Rector Karlis Kreslins' annual income last year was EUR 75,393, Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences Rector Gatis Krumins - EUR 50,995, and BA School of Business and Finance Rector Andris Sarnovics - EUR 61,856.
