President: cyber-security is one of the biggest future challenges

Raimonds Vējonis/president.lv.
Cyber-security is one of the biggest future challenges for every resident, said President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis during his visit to Cert.lv IT security institution.

The president met with Cert.lv manager Baiba Kaškina and deputy manager Varis Teivāns on Friday, 9 March.

During the meeting, the president mentioned: «Cyber-security is not a challenge for the state alone – it is a major challenge for every resident. A lot has been done on a state level to overcome this challenge. Nevertheless, in order to ensure safety of our country’s information space, we have to strengthen the capacity of responsible institutions and further improve residents’ media awareness.»

Cert.lv mentioned that the number of cyber threats has a tendency to increase globally. This is why it is important to realize preventive measures to strengthen state administrations’ cyber security, as well as raise their ability to react to possible cyber threats.

«Election experience of other countries shows just how important it is for political parties to ensure cyber-security not only for websites, but also the entire information technology infrastructure,» the president said.
