On Thursday, 8 March, Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry decided to request Latvenergo’s profits of EUR 78.9 million to be diverted towards reducing electricity bills for residents and differentiation differences caused for businessmen, BNN was told by the council.

The council emphasizes that it is important to further improve Economy Ministry’s control and raise capacity to push out dishonest recipients of mandatory procurement components. «LCCI council unanimously decided it is necessary to divert excessive profits towards reduction of electricity bills and bouncing back the negative effects from differentiation,» says LCCI president Aigars Rostovskis.

LCCI also invites Economy Ministry and the government to discuss the new model on diversion of profits in favour of reducing electricity bills with the association before its approval to help quell possible misunderstandings.

LCCI had previously asked Economy Ministry to perform control measures to support recipients of mandatory procurement components to make sure they are honest. In a letter to the ministry, LCCI detailed the importance of taking immediate actions. The association calls for approval of Cabinet of Ministers requirements that are intended to increase the ministry’s capacity to ensure control.
