Proportion of people working in Latvia’s culture sector is larger than the average in EU

The number of people working in Latvia’s culture sector is equal to 4.5% of the total number of employed people in the country. This proportion is also larger than the average one across the European Union, according to data published by Eurostat.

The largest number of people employed in the culture sector is recorded in Estonia (5.3% of the total number of employed people), Luxembourg (5.1%), Sweden (5%), Slovenia and Britain (4.6% in both).
 

Latvia and Netherlands have the same proportion of residents working in the culture sector. The proportion is lower in Denmark (4.4%), Malta (4.2%), Austria (4.1%), Germany (4%), Belgium (3.9%) and Lithuania (3.6%).
 

The lowest proportion of people employed in cultural sector is recorded in Romania (1.6%), Slovakia (2.5%) and Bulgaria (2.8%).
 

The proportion of people employed in EU member states’ culture sector accounts for 3.7% of the total number of employed people.
