Latvian Defence Minister Raimonds Bergmanis is satisfied with the successful conclusion of demarcation of Latvian and Russian state borders, which is a process that was first initiated in 2009.

«A great deal of contribution to the process of demarcation was provided by specialists of Latvia’s Geospatial Information Agency, who participated in the work performed by Latvian-Russian Demarcation Commission. Agency’s specialists also developed the final versions of demarcation documents – demarcation map, border description, landmark documents, landmark coordinates and altitudes catalogue and the final report,» reports Defence Ministry.

As reported by Defence Ministry, the final demarcation documents were signed by Latvian and Russian officials will be signed at the Foreign Affairs Ministry on Wednesday, 25 October.

Documents will be signed by co-chairmen of both countries’ demarcation commission – Consul General in St. Petersburg Irina Mangule and ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary Aleksejs Obuhovs.

The signing will take place during the final meeting of the joint demarcation commission. After the signing, documents will be sent to governments of the two countries for approval. Once Latvia and Russia exchange diplomatic notes, the border demarcation process will be complete.
