On Tuesday, 17 October, seventeen individuals, including nine children, in need of international protection were relocated to Latvia from Turkey as part of EU resettlement programme, as confirmed by Latvian Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs.

Four families from Syria arrived in Latvia on Tuesday. They have been transported to Mucenieki asylum seeker centre.

Among the resettled persons are representatives of such professions like shoemaker, farmer, taxi and cargo truck driver.

In accordance with international procedures and guidelines of the Asylum Law, upon arrival in Latvia asylum seekers submit their applications to officials of the State Border Guard who then inform individuals of their rights and responsibilities during the approval procedure.

On the next day after arrival in the country, officials of the State Border Guard continue working with asylum seekers and continue preparing the necessary documents for their submission to the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs.

As part of EU resettlement programme, Latvia has successfully resettled 363 individuals.
