During the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Monday, 18 September, Latvian Foreign Affairs Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs met with his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj. The two discussed political and economic cooperation between the two countries.

Rinkēvičs affirmed Latvia’s desire to continue active political dialogue with India and proposed organizing the next political discussion in Riga.

«Development of mutual relations between Latvia and India so far has been good. This is why we are interested in continuing exchange of high-level visits and deepening political and economic cooperation. I invite India to open an embassy in Riga,» said Rinkēvičs.

Latvia’s minister also discussed with his Indian colleague cooperation in IT, food processing, transport and logistics, as mentioned in the ministry’s report.

Ministry’s representatives also report that Rinkēvičs affirmed Latvia’s interest in signing a cooperation programme for higher education, and that Latvia’s Culture Ministry is currently in the process of reviewing India’s proposed cooperation programme for culture projects.

Rinkēvičs also invited the Indian Foreign Affairs Minister to visit Latvia.
