KNAB starts new inspection associated with oligarch case

Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau has commenced a new inspection associated with the so-called oligarch case. This time the inspection is about possible illegal acceptance of benefits by officials, as confirmed by KNAB management on Tuesday, 8 August.

KNAB Investigations Office Manager Ilze Kivleniece said the bureau has commenced a new inspection in relation to possible illegal acceptance of benefits by officials.

This inspection is planned to be completed within one month’s time. KNAB does not reveal the names of officials in question.

Conversations between politicians and businessmen recorded in Ridzene hotel served as one of the main pieces of evidence in the so-called Oligarch case launched in 2011.

Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau spend years investigating this case. Unfortunately, it turned out that the tapped conversations are not enough to raise charges, so the criminal process was ended.

As it is known, the Saeima has formed a parliamentary investigation committee in relation to oligarch talks.
