Integrated into Baltic States Air Space Control System (BALTNET), the mobile Air Control and Reporting Centre will be part of NATO’s air space monitoring and control system. Staff of this centre will provide support in training of National Armed Forces in Latvia, as reported by Defence Ministry.
The ministry notes that after Russia’s annexation of Crimea in spring 2014 and aggression in eastern Ukraine, NATO, including Germany, has been actively engaged in enhancing security in Latvia.
German armed forces have deployed the mobile Air Control and Reporting Centre as part of the Persistent Presence initiative.
The first time the mobile Air Control and Reporting Centre had been stationed in Lielvarde was July 2016.
