Latvian conductor Nelsons wins Grammies in U.S.

Latvian conductor Andris Nelsons has added two Grammy music awards to his list of honours for the work with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

At the Grammy music awards ceremony in the U.S. on Sunday, February 10, the Latvian won the prize for the best orchestral performance with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in the record Shostakovich: Symphonies Nos. 4&11.

The record also received a Grammy for the best engineering, which was done by engineers Shawn Murphy and Nick Squire and mastering engineer Tim Martyn,

Nelsons wrote on his Facebook page: «It is a huge honour for Boston Symphony Orchestra, myself and the whole team behind this project to win two Recording Academy / Grammy awards for our last instalment of our Shostakovich cycle of Symphonies 4 & 11 with Deutsche Grammophon. This is the third time the cycle has won the award of ‘Best Orchestral Performance,’ and we are thrilled that our wonderful engineers for this project, Shawn Murphy and Nick Squire, have been recognised for their excellent work by winning ‘Best Engineered Album, Classical’.»
