IBBF 2014 promises a diverse program of dance

Lita Beiris/LETA.
RIGA, Mar 5 - In its 19th year, the International Baltic Ballet Festival (IBBF) has scheduled a wide variety of dance and other artistically-related events from April 7 to May 18.

As the festival's founder and director, Lita Beiris, told a press conference yesterday afternoon, once again the festival will get under way with a free concert-production in the main concourse of the Riga Railway Station. Raimonds Pauls' melodies will provide the musical setting, with the dancers from the National Ballet company, the "Dzirnas" troupe, and the ballet studio "Grande".

As always, the main event will be the Gala Evening (April 14) in the Opera House, with principal dancers and international prize winners from many countries in scenes, one-acts and solo numbers.

Beiris was proud to announce the list of foreign companies gracing this year's festival. They are "Opinion Public" from Brussels, the flamenco "Jesus Carmona&Cia" from Barcelona, Polish Dance Theater from Poznan, and the Danish Dance Theater.

Beiris has made sure, and rightfully so, that the festival ventures outside Riga. People in Rezekne, Preili, Valmiera and Ventspils can look forward to guest performances this year as well.
