Tax burden remains a serious obstacle to start a business in Baltic States
For the second consecutive year companies newly-founded in Baltic States mentioned the high tax burden as their biggest challenge. Attraction of initial funding is also a major challenge for aspiring entrepreneurs in Baltic States. Interviewed businesses in Latvia and Lithuania also mentioned difficulties with funding qualified employees, whereas businesses in Estonia more often mentioned problems with finding clients, according to results of a study performed by SEB Bank.

PUC approves regulations for the use of Inčukalns underground gas storage facility
Public Utilities Commission has approved the regulations submitted by AS Conexus Baltic Grid on the use of Inčukalns underground gas storage facility. These new regulations govern he use of the gas storage facility and will come into force along with new storage service tariffs – 1 June 2018, as confirmed by PUC.

On 22 May 2018, Baltic International Bank, JSC and ABLV Asset Management (a privately owned investment manager) concluded the agreement whereby from now, Baltic International Bank is the custodian of the mutual funds managed by ABLV Asset Management.

Deposits of foreign clients attracted by Latvia’s banks have declined 27.1% in Q1 2018. At the end of March, it was EUR 5.869 billion, as reported by Finance and Capital Market Commission.

Association: loan repayment indexes improve in non-bank consumption loan segment
In 2017, members of Latvian Association of Alternative Financial Services issued in loans EUR 180.5 million. Compared to 2016, this is an increase of 6.9%. Members’ credit portfolio was EUR 88.7 million at the end of 2017, which is 8.1% more than a year ago.
