False "Holandes" and "Gouda" cheese recalled from stores

RIGA, March 15 - The Food and Veterinary Service has halted distribution of "Holandes" and "Gouda" cheese by wholesale trader "Walux" after establishing that the products did not contain milkfat but vegetable fats, and therefore could not be labeled as cheese.

The Food and Veterinary Service ascertained that "Walux" had bought the cheese products, made in Poland, put on new labels on them and then sold them as cheese.

The Food and Veterinary Service has halted sale of about ten tons of the said products and ordered the company to recall all such products from retail and put correct labels on them.

The company will be fined up to LVL 500. In case of repeated violations, the company could be fined up to LVL 3000.
