Gunther Oettinger.
RIGA, March 5 - Tomorrow in Brussels, Baltic ministers will meet with European Commission (EC) Energy Commissioner Gunther Oettinger to discuss the progress of a functional gas market in the Baltics, the Economy Ministry informed the business information portal ''Nozare.lv''.

During the meeting, the conclusions from the consulting firm hired by the European Commission for the assessment of the best location for construction of the Baltic region's liquefied natural gas terminal will be discussed, as well as other solutions to diversify the region's gas market.

Latvia has on several occasions urged for intergovernmental talks on the conclusions of the report, to ensure the most economic beneficial gas supply alternatives for Latvian consumers, and the creation of a gas market in the region. Latvia's main interest is not a specific infrastructure object, but the creation of a functioning gas market in the Baltics.

Taking into account that Economy Minister Daniels Pavluts is currently on a working visit to Singapore, Latvia will be represented at the meeting by Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics.
