Industrial production output increases 6.4% in January-September

 RIGA, Nov 5 (NOZARE.LV) - Latvia's industrial production output increased 6.4 percent in the first nine months of 2012 as compared to the same period last year, according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices, the Central Statistical Bureau informs.
Industrial production output in manufacturing increased 10 percent, in mining and quarrying - 3.5 percent, while in electricity and gas supply there was a decrease of 4.6 percent.
As compared to the second quarter of 2012, industrial production output in the third quarter increased 2.3 percent, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Industrial production output in manufacturing increased 1.6 percent, in mining and quarrying - 8.9 percent, and in electricity and gas supply - 1.2 percent.
In comparison with the third quarter of 2011, industrial production output in the third quarter of this year rose 5.9 percent, according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices, including 8.1 percent increase in manufacturing and 1.1 percent and 1.3 percent reductions in mining and quarrying, and electricity and gas supply respectively.
Compared to this past August, industrial production volume in September decreased 2.8 percent, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Compared to September 2011, industrial production output in September this year increased 3.1 percent, according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices.
Year-on-year, manufacturing recorded a 3.1 percent reduction, electricity and gas supply - 0.6 percent fall, whereas mining and quarrying industry recorded an increase of 0.8 percent.
This past September, industrial production output at current prices comprised LVL 434.3 million.
Reduction in industrial production was significantly influenced by a drop in demand in the construction-related sectors, for example, in manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products (bricks, asphaltic concrete, cement etc.) - 5.1 percent reduction, in manufacture of rubber and plastic products (reduction in manufacture of architectural elements) - 11.7 percent, in manufacture of fabricated metal products (metal structures) - 3.9 percent, in production of chemicals and chemical products - 47.4 percent, in repair and installation of machinery and equipment (repair and maintenance of ships and boats, repair of fabricated metal products, machinery and equipment, installation of industrial machinery and equipment) - 18.3 percent.
