Imports forest products up 17% in Latvia in four months

In the first four months of 2018, Latvia imported forest products worth EUR 292,526, which is 17% more when compared to the same period of 2017.

61.6% of imported forest products consisted of wood and wood products, which were imported to Latvia worth EUR 180.33 million. Compared with the same period of 2017, imports of wood and its products have grown by 28.1%.

Saw materials were imported in a volume worth EUR 51.25 million, which is 9.7% more than 2017. The volume of round timber was worth EUR 35.365 million, which is 47.5% more than a year ago. The volume of imported plywood was worth EUR 20.426 million, which is 38.8% more.

Paper, carton and their products also composed a good portion of forest products in the first four months of 2018. Latvia imported those products in a volume worth EUR 90.728 million, which accounted for 31% of total imports and was 9.5% more than a year prior.

The majority of forest products were imported from Lithuania – worth EUR 61.111 million or 20.9% of total imports, Belarus – worth EUR 40.609 million or 13.9%, and Russia – worth EUR 40.564 million or 13.9%. Compared to the first four months of 2017, imports from Lithuania have grown 26.4%. From Belarus, imports have growth by 61.4%. From Russia, imports of wood products have grown 25.4%.
