Road association greatly displeased with Latvian government

Looking at what Prime Minister Māris Kučinskis’ government has accomplished in road construction in the past two years, road construction association Latvijas ceļu būvētājs (LCB) if forced to rate their work with a score of 2 out of 10.

LCB chairman Andris Bērziņš explains such a harsh score: «Even though the chairman of Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has given the government’s work a 6, we have decided to give 2. This is because the government has failed to accomplish the goal detailed in the National Development Plan – balanced development of Latvia’s regions.»

Bērziņš claims that funding for road construction sector is insufficient, the amount and scale of necessary repair work continues to expand, roads are of poor quality and continue degrading (especially in the countryside). «Funding for the European Union will soon end, but the government continue talking and promising. But it is unknown if we can expect any funding at all to ensure even satisfactory quality of roads in 2019.»

«LBC would gladly give the government a better score, but this is something they have to earn. The government has to stop acting like a lazy child waiting out an exam on a complicated subject and start doing their homework,» said Bērziņš.
