Retail trade turnover in Latvia increases 4.9%

Compared to September 2016, total retail trade turnover rose by 4.9 % in September 2017. Turnover of retail trade in food products increased by 5.7 %, turnover of retail trade in non-food products, except for retail sale of automotive fuel, grew by 7.4 %, whereas turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel fell by 1.7 %.

The most significant turnover growth in the non-food products group was recorded in retail sale of information and communication equipment (of 24.5 %), retail sale of hardware, paints and glass (12.0 %), as well as retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (7.0 %). Turnover drop, in turn, was observed in retail sale of pharmaceutical and medical goods (of 2.7 %), as well as in retail sale of cosmetic and toilet articles (2.1 %), according to data from Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia.
 

Total retail trade turnover at current prices increased by 7.1 %.
 

Compared to August, retail trade turnover declined by 0.6 % in September 2017. Turnover of retail trade in food products fell by 1.1 %, of retail sale of automotive fuel by 1.6 %, while of retail trade in non-food products, except for retail sale of automotive fuel, increased by 1.1 %.
 

Turnover reduction was registered in retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (of 8.3 %), retail sale via stalls and markets (6.9 %), as well as retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (1.7 %).
 

Turnover increase, in its turn, was recorded in retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (of 1.8 %), retail sale in non-specialised stores with non-food products predominating (1.5 %), retail sale of information and communication equipment and retail sale of pharmaceutical and medical goods (0.1 % in each).
 

Compared to August, in September 2017 the total retail trade turnover at current prices (not taking into account seasonality) reduced by 7.0 %.
