Cargo turnover at Latvian ports has fallen 5.3% in first three months

 RIGA, April 12 - In the first three months of the year, compared to the same period last year, Latvian ports handled a total of 18.97 million tons of cargo, which was 5.3 percent less when compared to the same period last year, "Nozare.lv" was informed by the Latvian Port, Transit and Logistics Council.

In the first three months of 2012, Latvian ports handled a total of 20.03 million tons of cargo.

The Freeport of Riga handled 8.15 million tons of cargo in January-March 2013, 14.1 percent less than in January-March 2012, the Freeport of Ventspils - 9.12 million tons (a seven percent increase), the Port of Liepaja -1.35 million tons (a 20.7 percent decrease).

Bulk cargo turnover made up 8.69 million tons in the first three months of 2013, liquid cargo - 7.34 million tons, general cargo - 2.94 million tons.
